Bannockburn Rally 2009

BANNOCKBURN COMMEMORATION 2009

I was rushed off my feet by the time I eventually got to Bannockburn this year after having double booked myself with an event in East Kilbride!!

No matter, I got there around nine and after safely disposing of the car I went in search of liquid refreshment with some thirsty patriots.

Before I go on I would like to thank David and Duncan for some great photos of the days event, although I wasn't there, seeing the photos was a great wee way of getting a feel for what went on.

I'd also like to take the opperchancity to just say well done to Siol Nan Gaidheal who managed a fantastic turnout to at least give this commemoration some semblance of respect after the SNP shamefully dumped it from their calendar!! Also many thanks to everyone else who turned out.

It didn't take me long to find somewhere to sit among so many patriots gathered at the Tartan Arms pub in Bannockburn to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the wonderful music of our assembled bands!!

Clannadonia were superb, Gaberlunzie played a blinde, again!! What can I say about Ted Christopher that hasn't already been said!! Ted yer a legend Sir!!

Got to meet some old friends and hopefully made some new ones, the dancing was spectacular as many a Clansman took to the floor to gyrate their hips to the music, Thomas as always was by far the dancer of the evening closely followed by his partner in crime McMadd!

Back at the campsite the fun continued, our tent was more like a village, separate bedrooms for four of us and anyone we wanted to invite into our sleeping bags is a big bloody tent in my opinion!!

Come the morning it was time to play on the swings, I kid you not!! Just the thing to build up an appetite for our full English breakfast at the Bannockburn services, again I kid you not!!

After some verbal sparring with the same lassie as last year we eventually took our foreign breakfast to our table to get stuck in, as foreign breakfasts go it wasn't too bad, I'll be back again next year and I'll argue with the same lassie about breakfast but I hope the commemoration will be better organised and that the SNP don't forget this most worthy of events on the Scottish calendar, shame on all of you who never went, you know who you are!!!
